I grew up with a special tradition of eating sausage balls every Christmas! I’ve had this tradition my whole life, and I love it! I am gluten free about 99% of the time except for special “cheats”. I like the way I feel better when I stay clear of gluten, and I also know it’s better for my health, overall. So I decided to make a go at making sausage balls my family and I could eat without any remorse.
In addition to this recipe being gluten free, I also used grass-fed beef sausage I purchased from our local farmer. My husband teaches why pork is not a healthy choice HERE. I also used grass-fed cheese, which is full of healthy fats and protein. Everything about this recipe is healthy…so long as you purchase organic ingredients!
I know I’m sending this out the day after Christmas, but I figured everyone is super busy on the actual days leading up to Christmas. Hopefully now that it is past, you have a little more time to read this and enjoy. Try this recipe out. If you love it like I do, remember this for your next holiday get-together!
The recipe I made is gluten-free, grain-free, and completely healthy! Enjoy!
This is the size batch I made to feed a large amount of people. Feel free to split or double the recipe. My recipe makes close to 50.
INGREDIENTS:
2 pounds of grass-fed beef sausage (I purchased mine from my local farmer. If you are near Atlanta, you can purchase yours HERE. You can also purchase your butter, cheddar cheese, and eggs from here, too.)
2 large eggs
2 cups almond flour
2 1/2 cups cheddar cheese
2 tbsp melted butter
4 tsp baking powder (aluminum free)
1/2 tsp pink salt
DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Mix all the ingredients together. To get best results, use your hands to thoroughly mix it well.
3. Roll into about 1 inch round sausage balls.
4. Place onto greased cookie sheet. Or for best results (we learned the hard way), use place sausage balls onto (unbleached) parchment paper.
5. Bake for about 20 minutes.
