(This was written in 2016.)
By the time you read this, the results will be in. About half of our Nation may very well feel upset, ignored, and unnoticed. That idea makes me sad. I am praying for God’s will to be done in this Election, and I am praying for us to accept it, knowing that God is wiser than we are. We are the sheep of his pasture, and he is our good shepherd who knows the lay of the land.
I have had a hard time not obsessing over this Election and its results this past couple of weeks. I’ve often wondered what this will mean for my boys. What rights will be taken away from me as a parent? How will my boys be able to find good work someday if our economy crashes? Will it ever get to the point where Christians will be marginalized or persecuted for their faith? What will it mean for my family as small businesses owners if we are taxed to death? What will it mean for my family as those whose livelihood depends upon our natural health teachings and practices? (I ask this because I know that most politicians are paid heavily by pharmaceutical companies, Monsanto, etc, which stand for the opposite of what we practice and teach.) How many more people will have to first die of cancer before our corrupt government exposes the deception the FDA and the beauty industry have sold us about toxic carcinogenic chemicals found in most personal care products being safe? This is just the tip of the iceberg of questions and anxieties that have been plaguing my mind lately.
I have had to continually dump all these thoughts out in prayer. You see, the more I have learned and researched and continue to learn, the more I feel like I swallowed the red pill and had the matrix exposed to me.
We really are a deceived people in our nation. We blindly have trusted that things are being done in our best interest. Sometimes I miss my ignorance.
But God is not surprised. God is not shocked. God is not sitting up in heaven biting his nails over the outcome of this Election.
I remember back in 2001 on 9/11. I remember being so saddened by what happened. But I also remember thinking how that sort of thing happens all over the globe all the time. Sadly, most of us don’t really care what is happening all over the globe. We get stuck in the here and now. This is an area I need to work on more.
God is a God who loves the nations. He loves all people groups. He loves all races. He loves all of his creation. He sees the bigger picture that I cannot see. He has a plan, and it very well may or may not be mine. God is not an American. God is not a political party member. God is bigger than we give him credit for.
God has used both good and evil rulers for his purposes throughout history. And when Jesus walked this planet, he was under the rule of Rome. Think about that! Rome boasted of GLADIATORIAL GAMES! People literally flocked to arenas to go see people get violently KILLED right before their eyes! Religious leaders had temple prostitutes, for which people could pay to experience ‘spiritual’ renewals! Many people were burdened with taxes, which left them suppressed, and which filled the pockets of their rulers. It was a glorious regime. And yet it was thoroughly corrupt. And it fell.
In Job, we are reminded that, “He makes nations great, and destroys them; he enlarges nations, and disperses them.” (Job 12:23-25)
All my ramblings here are to remind us that God is on his throne. We can tell him our fears; we can humbly tell him our excitements. And we must remember that no person is our true enemy. We do not fight against flesh and blood. We each have the same common Enemy. And he/she is not a politician.
Rest in peace. Know that the same God who knows how many hairs are on your head is the same God who rules the world, and he’s the same God who allowed our Election 2016 to turn out the way it did.
