Below is a short article I wrote back in 2010. While I was reading from the Bible, four truths were highlighted to me. Now here I am, seven years later, with the same gratitude in my heart about these timeless truths.

This is why You are great, Lord GOD. There is no one like You, and there is no God besides You, as all we have heard confirms. And who is like Your people Israel? God came to one nation on earth in order to redeem a people for Himself, to make a name for Himself, and to perform for them great and awesome acts, driving out nations and their gods before Your people You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt. You established Your people Israel Your own people forever, and You, LORD, have become their God (2 Samuel 7:22-24)

So many truths are packed into those few verses.

1) The Lord is great and powerful. He has the ability to overrule nations! He most certainly can handle you and your affairs that are plaguing your heart!

2) There is no God like Him….that’s right—none. None can stand against Him. Your enemy cannot. Your idol cannot. Your dreams cannot, nor can your failures. God can right any wrong, and He can beautify every ash. He has no equal. No person or thing will ever fill the position that’s only reserved for Him. He is over all.

3) God redeemed Israel to make a name for Himself. That’s right. God enjoys getting attention for beautifying ashes. In the Old Testament, God called this rinky-dink group of ‘nobodies,’ and He made them great. He blessed them and raised them up to be a mighty people. He chose them—not because they were the most beautiful, wealthy, or powerful. He chose them because they could bring Him the most glory. “If God can raise up and mightily use the ‘nobodies’ like Israel, He must truly be a great and awesome God,” surrounding nations must have said.

On this point, check out what the Apostle Paul had to say in the New Testament:

For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel. Neither are they all children because they are Abraham’s descendants. On the contrary, in Isaac your seed will be called. That is, it is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children, but the children of the promise are considered seed (Romans 9:6b-8).

It’s a bit confusing. But what it’s saying is that “Israel” is comprised of those who are children of God’s promise—those who place their faith in Christ. Thus—the verses above can be applied to us today who have a relationship with God through Jesus! All these truths are directly true for us today, too, because Israel is not longer a nation of people. It’s a group of people scattered across the globe, of mixed races and languages, who have chosen to follow Christ as their Messiah!

4) Finally, the last point is that God promised in the first passage above that His people are established forever. That’s about as long as it gets. You may rest in God, for He will NEVER let you go.

APPLICATION:

Find your rest in God. If you do not know God and have not trusted in His promises, turn to Him. If you have trusted in God and are His child, sit in His lap. Let His loving embrace envelop you until you are healed and ready to pour out your love to a dying and needy world.
